Still can’t quite believe that I won’t see David’s smile light up the whole hospital again. I know he was so very tired out by the battle towards the end, and so I hope that up in heaven David is resting up well and chilling, free of cancer, free of pain and all the other symptoms. The thing is, no matter how exhausted and rough David was feeling, he remained far more concerned and curious about his doctors’ and nurses’ wellbeing than his own. Not a day went by when he didn’t earnestly ask every single nurse and doctor, “How are you?” And when David asked us that question it was always heartfelt. The only mis-step David probably ever made was to delay seeking help back when he very first started feeling unwell. But he was so focussed on being the best Dad he could possibly be to his boys, and the best human. Always, always putting others first. Heaven has gained another Angel, and this earth has lost the best of the best.
